Having left Scicily we head around the southern coast of Italy and across to Katakolon.
Katakolon is simply a small village consisting of a single street and a row of waterfront cafes, bars and souvenir shops.
This is a very pleasant village with no pretention of being anything else.
It is however ideally placed for a visit to the archaeological site of Olympia.
The first Olympic games took place in a stadium here in 776 BC and were held in honour of Zeus (wielder of thunderbolts and father of the Gods).
The actual stadium dates back to the 5th century BC and the track is around 212m long by 28m wide.
The stadium held around 45,000 spectators.
