Grant and I set this climbing wall up in the shed where we work. The larger wall is a lead climbing wall only and is 9 metres out by 6 metres high, 2.7 metres wide and has a short 600mm vertical section for a bit of assistance to those not accustomed to climbing on roofs. The ringbolt protection are 16mm ringbolts and they are drilled through the structural purlins of the shed, they are double locknutted and threads burred over and also have a cyclone washer under the nuts to prevent pull through. The rings are placed about every metre. You`ll probably notice some strips of timber placed on the wall, they are flakes designed with a grip that one can make progress up the roof. As yet no one has succeeded to get to the end yet on the flakes. When using the flakes the rules are flakes for hands but feet can use any holds after the 45 degree section of the roof. The other wall is in the same shed and is used primarily as a bouldering wall and is really very fun and it`s incredible how social things get when a bunch of people get together. Grant and I took about 4 hours constructing the bouldering wall. Of course setting the climbs took a bit on top of the 4 hours. It helps speed the construction process when one has an exposed and very solid frame to build down from. The big lead wall took quite a while to build and setting climbs is a pain. All the ply used in these walls is 17mm or 5/8ths of an inch thick we have a reasonably close setout for the tee nuts and all the holds are proffessionaly made. Grant cranks hard on nothing slopers whilst I stick to the huge jugs. I`ll try to get some action shots soon and put them up here as well. It`s a great place to come when I get too bored with the local climbing gym. Keeps me fit for when I get out on the real rock.
