He has lived in the neighborhood for many years, and now feels proud that the downtown area has grown up!
The red statue is a blend between an eagle and a phoenix, mixture of America and a rising from the ashes.
The column has elements of San Jose history,
including harvest (fruits), Japanese-American internment in WWII (black stripe), and the great Chinatown fire (topmost).
