Make It Right Foundation in the Lower 9th Ward

The Make It Right Foundation was started by Brad Pitt to help people get back into housing in the Lower 9th Ward that was devestated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The homes that have been built and occupied so far were built for the families who owned the land (and previously houses) before the devestation of the storm. The foundation helps in getting the people financing and even help in paying for the house if they can't fully afford the new residence.

Om April the 29th the foundation had a presentation of two pieces of art for Mr Pitt and for what he has done to help the people there. One is a chair that was made from items found after Katrina in the Lower 9th (some in fields just in the last few week) the chair will be kept at the foundation for Brad's use when attending board meetings, while the other is the 9th Ward Oscar which was made by the same artist and in the same manner as the chair. The pieces did have a few small pieces that had to be found elsewhere but otherwise they are about 95% from the area where the new housing is being built.

There were recently two houses started, in the last few weeks, and several completed since Mardi Gras 2009 so there is major progress going on. In fact one of the builders said that he looked up from working a couple weeks ago and saw Brad just walking down the street checking out the progress of the Project.

(the gentleman in the brown shirt with the Oscar and Chair is the Artist who made the pieces).
