Lee Harvey Oswald left the School Book Depository after the shooting, only person known to have left the building that afternoon before the police sealed it off, and went south into Oak Cliff which was across the Trinity River from Downtown Dallas. He had a room in a boarding house on N Beckley Boulevard which crosses Jefferson about 8 or so blocks away. LHO took a cab to a spot a block or so past his room and got out and then went back to the boarding house and his room for a few minutes. He then left and headed south down Beckley towards Jefferson but turned down 10th St before reaching Jefferson, may have seen a police car since by this time (about 1:10) his description was being broadcast on the police radios, and he proceeded to go west on 10th street. He was stopped by officer J. D. Tippit at Patton and 10th who was in a patrol car. LHO shot and killed officer Tippit at that location and fled west on 10th street and then cut over the 2 blocks to Jefferson which was a business lined street.
