Dallas Texas is Erecting a Calatrava Designed Suspension Bridge on the West Side of Downtown

The main single support tower will rise over 400 ft above the banks of the Trinity River and the suspended part of the bridge will be over 1,000 ft long. Prep work has been going on now for many months with a delay for a while because further engineering studies were needed to study where the tower was being placed and if it would be stable for the life of the structure. It will be a 6 lane road that is canterlevered from a main support box structure that will be suspended from cables running from the center arch.

First set of photos were taken around June 1, 2010, the arch peak was dropped in on Sat the 26th of June but it was still attached to the crane on Monday the 28th. As of May 14th 2011 they have started to hang the cables that will support the deck of the bridge.

Feb 24, 2012 Well the bridge itself is pretty much finished they just need to connect all the other roadways to it so it is running now about 3 weeks behind schedule (said rain is the delay though there have been few rain days that would delay it in the last 3 months). Turns out that it ran WAY over budget- budget was around 120 Million and it is now at $182,000,000.00!!! Wonder who is being hit for the other $60+ Mill? A normal state financed bridge of this size would run under $40 Mil but the connecting system may have pushed that up a bit to say $50 but the OVERAGE on this bridge is higher than the cost of a traditional Bridge and connector system COMPLETE!
