Texas' Regional Burners Without Borders Corpus Christi do several major Texas Gulf Coast Beach cleanups yearly south of Corpus Christi, Texas just above the Padre Island National Seashore. This area is a major bird sanctuary and also nesting grounds for endangered sea turtles each spring. So this group of Volunteers and Burners go out and remove debris, trash, and other items some of which are washed up onto the shore while others is thrown out by people who do not understand the impact that these items have on the environment. This Earth Day Cleanup in 2017 and the days before and right after the volunteers picked up a couple tons of trash most of which was small but adds up and even small pieces can be deadly to the birds, turtles and other sea life in the Texas Gulf Coast. The BWBCC group has adopted a stretch of beach and some sand dunes south of the Bob Hall Pier area that is just north of the Padre Island National Sea Shore. The group builds a burnable effigy, in the custom of Burning Man Events, each time and usually burn it on the Saturday or Sunday night depending on the weekend. I took pictures of the "robot" this year but did not watch it burn because I was overtired and had gone to my tent to sleep already. This is a "leave no trace" event so the only impact that they try to leave are footprints and a cleaner less polluted environment since they clear the effigy burn site of any metal used to build the item and they incorporate no plastics in it's construction.
