508 Park Avenue in Dallas Texas where Robert Johnson did his only Studio Recording im 1937

In 1937, Johnson traveled to Dallas, Texas, for another recording session in a makeshift studio at the Brunswick Record Building, 508 Park Avenue. Eleven records from this session would be released within the following year. "Stones In My Passway" and "Me And The Devil" are both about betrayal, a recurrent theme in country blues. "Hell Hound On My Trail" utilises another common theme: fear of the Devil. Other themes in Johnson's music include impotence ("Dead Shrimp Blues" and "Phonograph Blues") and infidelity ("Terraplane Blues," "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day" and "Love in Vain"). This Building is at high risk because the City of DALLAS CODE COMPLIANCE DEPT considers it a nusance property and want to tear it down! The building is well secured and the fenced in parking lot is kept clear of trash. The major problem is that across the street there is a place called the Stew Pot that feeds hundreds of homeless daily, the city doesn't see a problem with that though for some reason, and some idiot at the city does not respect any of the HISTORY that this building holds. Yes it has been empty for a number of years but the owners have kept the property up and even allowed Eric Clapton to use it to record in a couple years ago.

SO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE A MAJOR CHAPTER IN BLUES HISTORY GO UNDER THE WRECKING BALL WRITE OR EMAIL THE CITY OF DALLAS CITY COUNCIL/MAYOR AND LET THEM KNOW HOW YOU FEAL.

UPDATE JAN 2012- It looks like the Presbytarian Church that runs the Soup Kitchen that has been trashing out the neighborhood is going to buy the building and occupy it to some extent. I do not know the actual plans but I have heard rumours that they will actually use this part of the property as a music studio since there are several sections to the buildings on the city block that 508 Park is on. Hopefully they will respect the history of this building.
