1250 Plus days After Katrina

The New Orleans and Neighboring Area have now gone past 1250 days since Katrina made landfall and a lot has changed and a lot sill needs to be done. One of the biggest obstacles is FEMA and other Federal Agencies which have released less than 35% of the funds that were commited over 3 years ago to the people down here. There are people who are still having to have blue tarps on their rooves at exhorbitant prices (almost the same price AS AN ACTUAL SHINGLE ROOF)! Local governments do not have the funds to even rebuild their own firestations, police stations, libraries and schools much less funds to demolish abandoned properties. Many churches are still boarded up many other properties such as assisted living centers have been closed. These photos are from the east side of New Orleans (9th Ward) too and through the Parishes south of tha area on both sides of the Mississippi River.
