To live inside these walls or out? To come through the door - which we cannot see,but which we know must
have once been part of this building - from the open countryside, and be secure and safe,or to live
freely outside the walls?
This photograph brings these thoughts to my mind. These ruins of a building make a marvellous subject for
the young amateur photographer who is at present searching for, finding and encapturing ,amazing ,hidden
and interesting out-of-the-way places to photograph as he starts to use his newly-found talent in this
most exciting country of different races and religions.Who can imagine what may have taken place on
either side of this 'window'? Who may have looked in through the 'window' at what the inmates were doing
inside the rooms? Who may have looked out through that very 'window' at those living around them ?
To me the photograph brings feelings of great peace and beauty. There has been life in this building
since long before I arrived in the area with his camera, and life will show itself there again,as we can
tell when we look at that huge, gnarled branch of a growing tree - a branch which is right across our
'window'...
I find this a memorable and moving symbol of the history of this country of Israel.
