Flying Argiope?

I had a good PaD and then I found this guy.
I'll keep an eye on him because he is set up
right where the butterflies and hummingbirds fly.
I even started a gallery for him if anyone is interested:

Oooh! I'm getting creeped just looking at it! Not much of a spider fan ...
But a lovely photo of one, none the less, Pete! Ooooh!

I like the way the spider fills the entire frame! Great shot, Petesie!

Sorry, I meant to add that this is one superb photo... You wouldn't catch me within 10 miles of it.

Just how big is that thing (I must add that I hate spiders).

Beneficial I'm sure, but hide the children. Beautiful shot.

In my Texas Wildscape book it says the Argiopes are especially beneficial creatures, and should be treasured in any Wildscape. I had someone tell me that occasionally they will trap a hummer by accident, but I have never seen it happen. So, I'll just enjoy him. He really is beautiful up close.

Huge! Like seeing the detail-from your camera.

He looks a bit menacing doesn't he? I like the way you photographed him so that he almost looks like a villain keeping watch over the city for prey. Okay, so I have an active imagination. I don't know anything about this type of spider... is he likely to try for butterflies? That would be a shame since you haven't been getting many to begin with. Nice shot Petesie. I'll check out the rest of his gallery in a bit.
