For more than a decade I've been working as a travel writer, beginning with a book on the Silk Routes in China, then articles for the Sunday Times (UK), further guides to Beijing and to China as a whole, and articles on China and other countries for everyone from the National Post (Canada), to the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), Time, and the Wall Street Journal. I occasionally blog about this at Away on Business.
I take photographs because newspaper editors expect it, and certainly not because I have any talent in this area. I began these pages after acquiring a Pentax *ist D, which a few years after a dip in Arctic seawater was threatening to become unreliable, and has now been replaced with a K20D. No enhancements are turned on in the cameras and no improvements (not even cropping) made in Photoshop. All are shot as large, maximum quality jpegs (restricted to 10 megapixels). Comments and advice to the novice would be very welcome.
