The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are the top two symbols of Sydney. Because of their proximity to each other, they often form single iconic images of Sydney.
When completed in 1932, the Sydney Harbour Bridge was the second longest arch bridge in the world at 503m. With 8 traffic lanes, two rail tracks, a bike path and a pedestrian walk, it is still the world’s widest long-span bridge. The top of the bridge rises 134m above sea level, making it the tallest structure in Australia until 1967. It links Sydney’s central business district (CBD) to the commercial area of North Sydney.
The Sydney Opera House was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon in 1957 and completed in 1973.
