Magnet of Chinese Community
The best way to get inexpensive authentic Chinese food in the S.F. Bay Area suburbs (outside of the Chinatown enclave
) is to find a 99 Ranch Market
. Just like the Los Angeles area, 99 Ranch Markets are always the anchor store of Chinese owned strip malls with several restaurants.
We picked this particular 99 Ranch Market from its web site, because it is next to the I-80 Freeway on our way back from Marine World
. It is at the Pacific East Mall in the Easy Bay City of Richmond.
Pacific East Mall
To our surprise, the Pacific East Mall is not a simple outdoor mini mall, but an indoor mall. Size wise, it rivals other Chinese malls in Milpitas or Cupertino.
Hot Pot in Summer?
We passed this hot pot eatery
"All you can eat" is tempting as the evening cooled down. But after a hot day in Marine World
, we did not feel like eating in front of a stove.
The Macau Cafe offers unique style evolved from a mix of Chinese & Portuguese cooking
Some of the menu items are:
Crispy Crust Beef Stew, Beef & Cheese Quesadilla, Curry Crab
Final Choice for the Evening
With plethora of choices, we decided on the Diamo, with authentic Cantonese cuisine.
We found the specialty soup most enjoyable.
Beef for Dinner
Fat Wong's Kitchen (靚粥一世) is famous for its stewed beef.
Another authentic Cantonese-style dish is the rice noodle roll w/ flour crisp (炸两 "ja leung")
. Its primary ingredients are in the right rear.
