Designed by architect César Pelli, they are also known as the Petronas Twin Towers. They were the world’s tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004 until the Taipei 101 surpassed them. The reason they were judged to be taller than the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) in Chicago was that their antennas were considered as spires, an integral part of the architectural design, yielding a total height of 451.9m.
Aside from its height, its most striking feature is the “sky bridge” connecting the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floors. It is named after its largest tenant, Petronas, Malaysia's national oil company. At their base is the Suria KLCC, a large 6-floor upscale shopping mall. The entire complex is simply called the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) by the locals. This world-class achievement is the pride of Malaysia. |
