Within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park 富士箱根伊豆国立公園, we visited two attractions near the town of Hakone 箱根. Being volcanically active within the past 1000 years, Hakone has many hot springs.
Both attractions, Ōwakudani 大涌谷 (the Great Boiling Valley), and Lake Ashi 芦ノ湖 were formed by volcanoes. They are connected by the Hakone Ropeway.
Hakone is located in the Kanagawa Prefecture 神奈川県, southwest of Tokyo. To its west is the slope of Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately, due to the mist, we only had a brief glimpse of it in the morning.
