The Ala Moana Shopping Center was built in 1959. After its expansion in the mid-60’s, it was the largest shopping mall in the world, until superceded by the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, California in the mid-70’s. With the addition of the top floor in the 90’s, Ala Moana is catering more to affluent tourists than local shoppers.
