Mount Kidd

Kananaskis, Alberta

I'm scratching around on an old hard drive looking for some pix I have missed over
the years.

This is the Kananaskis River shot next to the bridge and road that leads to the village
and hotels. This bridge and road were completely washed out during the rains and
flooding of June 2013. This scene, as it is here, has disappeared.

EDIT: I have been misinformed. I visited this site on a trip to Alberta for family matters
yesterday. This bridge is intact and the scene is, essentially, as it appears. There are flood
effects. The washed out bridge and major damage is a little further south on the highway.

The name Kananaskis is thought to be derived from 'Kin-e-ah-kis,' the name of a well
known native, who was attacked with an axe by another man in a fight over a woman.
Kin-e-ah-kis is translated as 'one who is grateful' so perhaps he survived the attack.
The native people who inhabit this area are of the Stoney Band, a branch of the Sioux
Nation.
