Junglefowl

Kaengkrachan

This is the father of all domesticated chickens.
It still freely roams around in the forests of Thailand, usually surrounded by a harem of females.
Shy and quick to enter the dense foilage.
I managed this shot from the car as I was driving into Kaengkrachan National Park.

400mm F5.6
1/250s f/5.6 at 400.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Beautiful image of the wild species, Peter. We have to contend with the domesticated cock here.

I breed these birds in the U.S. and I consider this picture as one of the best shots of the species in the wild I have ever seen. Great job in capturing its beauty.

Nice shot! It looks like a direct ancestor of our Australian Game Fowl, which was originally bred for cockfights (which are now illegal, thankfully), must be around two feet high! Huge spurs and claws like this one too.

Great capture! Lovely colors. The light must have been just right for this bird.

This is a beautiful shot. Years ago here in the US my father raised some of these.
