Red Bellied Black Snake

We came across this snake sunning itself trying to warm up after a cool night.
At first we thought it had flattened itself to catch more sun, but then it
became apparent it was not happy with out presence! These are quite poisonous....
i.e. you need to get medical attention - antivenene - or risk a "negative patient outcome"!

I am always amazed at the number of poisonous snakes present in Australia. 800 mm is about right for this guy. Vote.

Nice shot. Reminds me of the black mambas I encountered in Africa. Never got a picture of one though; not getting bit was the highest priority.
