I have been told by a Beattie Government representative that the above image is CHILD EXPLOITATION! For the record, the baby IN REALITY was not dipped in a vat of green dye, is in context and not identifiable. Unlike Beattie politicians that go to kids schools with their entourage of media using the kids in Television news stories and other media forums, exploiting them for the sake of their party! Thats what I call CHILD EXPLOITATION! And why school principals who have a legal duty of care to protect the children allow this is beyond me! Children are not old enough to make a decision permitting such activity! Think about that! Also, I have it on good legal advice that ANY parent who has not given authority for their child to be photographed or filmed in these circumstances can SUE the government! Just something to think about :)

LETS OPEN SOME FLOODGATES WHILE WE ARE AT IT!
Thank god for INTERSTATE MEDIA

Peter Beattie's $30m jump in water prices

Ignorant prick!

By Jade Bilowol

30 august 2005

QUEENSLAND water consumers will be slugged an extra $30 million annually as part of a state government push to limit water demand.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie today unveiled a five-year water plan he said would influence ratepayers to treat water like "liquid gold" by "charging the sort of price that makes people value the resource".

He gave no indication or guarantee that the revenue raised would go towards future water storage infastructure.

Under the "Water Plan 2005-2010", householders will face a modest increase but irrigators will be charged for water for the first time to help offset the $68 million a year spent by the Government on water planning and administration costs.

While urban, residential and business users already paid the full cost of supplying water, irrigators had only paid the basic costs of water operation and supply for the past five years, Mr Beattie said.

"People with licences for rural stock and domestic will be charged a $100 annual charge with discount for pensioners," Mr Beattie said.

Under the seven-point plan, urban and commercial water users will pay 1.5c a kilolitre (1000 litres), mining and petroleum users 1c and irrigators and others 0.4c.

Price rises would start from January next year with the exception of irrigators, who would be subjected to the charges three months later.

However, Mr Beattie said the average increase on an annual urban ratepayers' water bill would be only $4 a year.

He conceded pricing increases alone would not totally relieve pressure on water demand but combined with the plan's six other points would prove effective.

The plan also aims to adopt water conservation measures such as re-using and recycling water, drought management practice, protecting river catchments and the environment and education campaigns.

"About half of a household's drinking water is actually going on the garden – if we can change that with grey water you are going to see a huge difference from March next year," Mr Beattie said.

Mr Beattie said the plan marked an agreement between the state government, its federal counterpart and the Brisbane City Council.

Deputy Opposition leader Jeff Seeney criticised the water price jumps today, saying a lack of water infrastructure rather than consumer usage was to blame.

"The extra charges that he has announced will amount to a tax on every Queenslander ... and won't solve the problem," Mr Seeney said.

"The problem has been the lack of infrastructure – southeast Queensland especially has the same water supply now that we had 15 years ago."

Beattie critical of anti-terrorism plans

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has urged the Commonwealth to rewrite its proposed new anti-terrorism laws, saying the laws could undermine basic rights.

Prime Minister John Howard will meet state and territory leaders on Tuesday to discuss the 12-point anti-terrorism package that would give police extra powers to stop and search people, and allow suspects to be held for up to 14 days without being charged.

Civil libertarians and academics says the measures will unfairly target the nation's Muslim community.

Mr Beattie says the Commonwealth has not got it right with its current proposals.

"If we're going to have detention without trial, there has to be accountability mechanisms and the period should be as minimal as possible," Mr Beattie said.

"I think there is a balance between those who have a strong civil libertarian view and those who perhaps have a conservative view that's designed to deal with terrorism.

"There is a balance and we need to get it right. We haven't got it right in the debate in Australia yet."

Mr Beattie is calling for safeguards, like "public interest monitors", to be included in the laws.

"It's not unreasonable to have somebody, a citizen of some standing outside the law enforcement agencies, who can actually appear before the judge and ensure that the public interest is being pursued," he said.

"It has to be somebody who's not a politician, not a government official but someone who actually represents the community, who can actually be there when these warrants are applied for."

But federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock says the package is the right response for Australia.

"There are people who have been charged with terrorism offences in Australia [and] the fact that we have been targeted on so many occasions by international elements," he told Channel Nine.

"It would be on our part a dereliction of our duty not to propose these sorts of changes."

Lock-down

Mr Beattie is not the only Labor leader critical of the plan.

Federal Labor leader Kim Beazley has told ABC TV's Insiders program that more practical action is needed.

"There has been marvellous politics from the Government on this as the years have gone by but very little achievement," Mr Beazley said.

Mr Beazley is suggesting laws that allow police to "lock down" a suburb or area.

"Give the capacity to the police commissioner in any jurisdiction to lock-down an area from which you believe a terrorist threat might be emerging or where it has actually occurred," he said.

"This gives the police substantial powers of search and seizure.

"For that to be sustained over a period of time you need some degree of judicial or executive supervision."

Fingleton payout proves Beattie looks after Labor mates

Premier Beattie’s special ex-gratia payment to former Queensland Chief Magistrate Di Fingleton proves the government will look after its Labor mates but no one else.

The $475,000 payout and the offer of a new job at Caloundra demonstrates a double-standard that sets a new low for Peter Beattie.

We have never said Di Fingleton did not deserve appropriate compensation for being wrongly charged and jailed.

Pauline Hanson received nothing despite being wrongfully jailed. Why doesn’t she receive the same consideration?

The answer is very simple.

Di Fingleton is a long term Labor supporter and was a key member of Anna Bligh’s election campaign team and Peter Beattie knows it.

That certainly was a consideration as was the prospect of Ms Fingleton telling all to the media unless she received a payout.

Pauline Hanson should now go knocking on the door of Peter Beattie’s office with her hand out, because the precedent has been set.

This came on the very day justice was denied to the victims of the Beattie Government’s health system.

Fingleton also was PAID WHILST IN PRISON and payment was stopped only after media found out about it! Why was she not forced to pay this (taxpayer money) back???

Tells you something don't it...

When the NEW Government Get's into power there needs to be an inquiry into this!

Fingleton payout spurs Hanson compo bid

Friday, September 2, 2005. 7:30pm (AEST)

Pauline Hanson's lawyers will write to Queensland Premier Peter Beattie next week seeking compensation for her time in jail.

The claim has been prompted by the State Government's decision to pay former chief magistrate Di Fingleton $475,000 in compensation and appoint her as a magistrate on the Sunshine Coast, after she was wrongly jailed for retaliating against a witness.

Miss Hanson says this week's development adds weight to her case.

"My time in prison, although Di Fingleton spent some time in maximum security, I spent 11 weeks in maximum security," she said.

"I was looking at a three-year sentence, she looked at six months - the trauma that I went through was horrendous."

Miss Hanson was jailed for electoral fraud in August 2003. She spent 11 weeks in prison before her conviction was overturned on appeal.

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has previously said that any compensation for wrongful imprisonment is out of the question in Miss Hanson's case.

Peter Beattie won't compensate Pauline Hanson because she is a formidable political opponent! Get candidates into electorates Pauline! You will do well next year! Peter Beattie and his Cronies are history. When/if you do get into power, introduce retrospective laws that will bring Beatie and his political cows to account even if it means PRISON SENTENCES!
