Every spring migratory Rainbow Trout swim up various tributaries in the Great Lakes region. In this photo, Rainbow Trout (some call them steelhead, although a true steelhead migrates from saltwater to fresh water e.g. Pacific) attempt to jump into the fishway at Corbett's Dam on the Ganaraska River in Port Hope, Ontario. At last count there were 2571 Rainbow Trout (as of April 13) that used the fish ladder. As many as 8000 have been known to make the journey. Unlike pacific salmon, rainbow trout do not die after spawning but rather return to the Great Lakes.
