A Pilgrim of the Light - Astrophotography

This gallery is dedicated to our Milky Way galaxy. Our home in this vast universe which to me at least, is unfathomable. The essence of my astrophotography is to simply enjoy the Creation, and to try to capture it with film as best I can.

I acknowledge that digital technology has many advantages especially with deep space and faint objects. But my passion is for the wide field views, giving a perspective of the object surrounded by the millions of stars. This is where medium format has a certain quality due to the large 6x7 cm piece of film used in the Pentax 67 cameras. Various fixed lenses can provide a massive view of the sky showing the objects in their full colourful glory. There is more colour up there than people imagine.

I find joy and simplicity with the use of film cameras. It is challenging to say the least to gather the light for up to 160 minutes in some cases. But it is also rewarding. It is the essence of the light which I gather on the film. The same light that greets the eye when viewing the stars, or the first rays of our sun in the early morning.
