Number 605 ia an Alco RS3m. The 'm' means it was modified. In this case, Conrail repowered it in 1979 and replaced the original Alco prime mover with one from EMD. At the same time they replaced the rectangular cooling fan housing with two round ones from EMD. This unit is now owned by the State of Connecticut, as is the FL9 sitting next to it.
FL9, number 2006, was build for the New Haven RR for service into New York City. It was equipped for dual power--conventional diesel-electric, or all electric from third-rail power. This unit was most recently operated by Metro North. It was retired after a fire in the electrical unit that supplied heat to the coaches.
Both units now reside at the Danbury Railway Museum.
