California Kingsnake

Sabino Canyon view map

This is a first open sighting I've had of a kingsnake in Sabino Canyon.
California Kingsnakes are fairly docile (and I resisted the urge to
capture and release this particular one) and are natural predators of
rattlesnakes. I am always thrilled to see one of these (especially around
our home), and with finally getting a decent shot of one in Sabino Canyon.

This really was a great day for seeing a wide variety of reptiles in Sabino:

Great shot of this snake and interesting background. I knew they were docile but didn't know they were predators of rattlers. I like that!

Gorgeous snake, Sam! I love your composition, too. Could you guess how long he is?

Yikes!! I hate snakes, although this is a good kind. We had one in our yard when I was growing up in Florida. Nice capture V

Keep resisting that urge, unless you have a valid Arizona hunting license. You never know who is watching!

Looks quite big. Handly to have a natural predator of rattlesnakes around. Well done.
