Serious Character

Tucson, AZ

Same snake (Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake) that we had in the area a couple of days earlier.
See http://www.pbase.com/pegsam/image/124985799 . This is a shot after it had just finished consuming
a young Round-Tailed Ground Squirrel. And, yes, this is a macro shot with me about 3 feet away.
Please do not try to get a close-up shot like this unless you know what you are doing and are
prepared to deal with a potentially deadly bite. There. You've been warned.

Canon EOS 7D ,Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM

Ok, Sam, you can get this close, if you want. I will still use my 300mm. I am not afraid of a rattlesnake, but I do not intend to get close enough, so I can look him in the eye. This is a fantastic shot.

Thanks for the warning and I never would make such an attempt, LOL. But great profile, close up. Really fantastic.

Amazing details throughout the head. I love the eye and tongue. Excellent DOF for a very nice background. Outstanding shot.

Very nice, Sam. I love that you caught his tongue part way out. Did you see him bite the squirrel?
