Sonoran Desert Toads

Sabino Canyon

Bufo alvarius

These are the largest toads in Arizona, growing to almost 8 inches in length. Likewise, their tadpoles are huge and can grow to over 2 inches in length. The toads become active during the summer monsoon season. This pair was in lower Sabino Creek and were somewhere in the process of making more Sonoran Desert Toads.
