Yes, lady bugs are more rounded and compact. They also have three outer segments on their legs. Typical characteristics of sap bugs include four segments (hard to se in this picture), the back end poking out from the shield and they often have beautiful coloration.

Thanks, i'm sure you are right. anything that is red with black dots is a ladybug to me, Ladybugs are more rounded, correct?

Nice picture, but it's not a lady bug we're looking at. It's a sap beetle. :-)
