About Me

I have been interested in and involved in many forms of art since I can remember. In high school I was the Art Director of my senior year book and worked on my portfolio to get accepted into a design school or college. I received a few awards in the local area and was headed to college. I initially learned black and white photography (Film) and the developing process while working on a documentary in the 80's.

In 1993, I enrolled in New England Institute of Technology's Video and Radio Production program and earned an Associates Degree in Science (with honors). Although I excelled in video and radio, the challenge of 3D animation was more to my liking. I attended class during the day and worked nights and went out to find work in the video field.

My career in video was short. A few corporate video's, some wedding videos and some dubbing and editing. Nothing on the scale I was looking for and ready to take on.

I enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design's continuing education program for graphic design and started my first job as a graphic designer shortly after. I have worked on every type of design project imaginable.

In 2002, my interest in photography came back into the picture shooting products for a retail Scuba catalog. My subject matter progressed from hard goods to apparel to models and finally on-location shoots. I led and planned photoshoots in Turks and Caicos and Grand Cayman and also contributed photography.

Each year I try to make as many trips as I can as money allows. I frequent national parks the most and try to fit in other select locations where I can find choice shots. I like to cover each area as if I were on assignment.

Some places on my list are: Glacier NP - MT, Badlands - SD, The Palouse - WA, Lake Powell - UT and Smoky Mountain NP - TN.

I shoot in RAW and process in Adobe Lightroom in a Mac environment. Very little editing is done in Abobe Photoshop with the exception of dust and spot removal. Every effort is made to accomplish correct lighting and composition during the shot.

To acheive these effects with landscapes, I use a 4" slide in filter system with various gradual neutral density filters to control the lighting. Most of my still life work is shot hand-held with the exception of 4x5.
