The Normandy beaches and Bayeux

11-04-04
We spent our first day up in the northern part of Normandy doing the history circuit and learning about how the landings in 1944 were carried out. An incredible achievment for sure but one still asks ythe obvious question is why the world has to fight.
The first photo sums up the whole futility of war, an extremly moving experience knowing that these people were somebodies son, husband, father irrespective of whether they were allied or not. The Bayeux cemetry is particularly of interest to our family as my fathers brother is buried there having been killed in action in 1944 at the age of 19, although his headstone says 20. He had claimed he was older than he was so he could join up.
One day and we can only wish we will realise wars don't solve anything.
