Rome, Italy

The Arch of Titus. It is situated at the highest point on the Via Sacra, the oldest street in Rome. It was constructed sometime following the death of Titus in 81 A.D. by the emperor Domitian. It commemorates Titus's capture of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. That event began the Jewish Diaspora, that saw Jews scattered first from their native Judea to Babylonia (present day Iraq), then to Spain, from which they were expelled in the late 15th century by Isabella, then to Poland and eastern Europe, then to the United States and now, in many cases, back to modern day Judea which is now the nation of Israel.
