Rome, Italy

Beautiful in ruin, what is left of the Temple of Apollo Sosiano dates to the fourth through first centuries B.C. It stands just outside the Theater of Marcellus, which was begun by Julius Caesar in 44 B.C. In the background is the Great Synagogue of Rome, which was completed in 1904 and is topped by the only square dome in the city.
