Rome, Italy

The Colosseum, more formally known as the Flavian Amphitheater, was dedicated in 80 A.D. by the emperor Titus. Much of it was quarried for use in later building projects in Rome following the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D. Some of the travertine is said to be in St. Peter's Basilica.
