One of eight entrances set in a medieval wall that dates from the 12th and 13th centuries, this arched gate admits residents and visitors to the town of San Gimignano. Called the Town of Fine Towers,, San Gimignano is famous for its medieval architecture and is famous for its dozen or so surviving tower houses (out of an original 72), which, coupled with the town's hilltop site, give the town one of history's first "skylines."
