London, England

The bascules of Tower Bridge are raised about 1,000 times per year to accommodate river traffic, which still takes priority over road traffic. The bascules rise to an angle of 83 degrees and permit clearance of 139 feet at mean highwater spring tide. Twenty four hours notice is required to raise the bridge's bascules. There is no charge, however, for river traffic.
