The fan vaulted ceiling over the choir of the Abbey Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, commonly known as Bath Abbey. Founded in the 7th century and rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries, Bath Abbey sits on the site of a former Benedictine monastery. Now an Anglican church, it claims as a part of its history the fact that Edgar was coronated as the first King of All England on the site in 973 AD, a date recognized today as the founding date of the British Monarchy.
