The basic layout of the Stonehenge we see today consists of a horseshoe shape semi-circle of stones inside a circular semi-circle of stones. The alignment of the stones along the line of the sunrise on the summer and winter solstices suggests that among other things, Stonehenge might have been an ancient observatory.
