Bald Eagles 2010

As of March 11, there are no eggs in the nest, as there is no brooding taking place. Neither has any copulation taken place that I am aware of. Moreover, the pair frequently seen sitting together in the nest tree is not the same pair that attempted reproduction here last season. Both of these new birds are young, as evidenced by some amount of black in their tail feathers. The larger bird, the female, has the most black in the tail, as well as some duskiness in the face. The eagle photographed on January 13 appears to be the female who held the territory at the tree in 2009, but the eagle photographed on March 7 is one of the new pair, probably the male. Unfortunately, this pair of eagles will not be raising a family this year. If these eagles remain bonded throughout the year, we can hope they will become parents at this nest next year. We would expect to see brooding of eggs in February.
