We thought about turning around at the pass, but I was curious about the landscape beyond and especially about Mono Lake, which is about 13 steeply downward miles from the pass. And indeed the landscape does change suddenly. As far as I can make out this is the edge of the "Ansel Adams Wilderness". Had I known that I might have thought about taking some shots designed for black & white ...
We needed the shade where we were, not over some hill in the distance. It was hot in the sun!
