The state of Florida is home to a small population of Northern Caracaras estimated to less than 1000 birds. The birds shown in this gallery were photographed in either Okeechobee or Hendry counties. Loss of adequate habitat has caused the Florida Caracara population to decline, and it was listed as threatened species by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in 1987.
Well done, Patrick. I totally enjoyed viewing your photographs of this magnificent creature. I haven't seen one since the 70s. I just don't get down that way often anymore.
