I lived in the LM during the early 70's. I remember it looking so majestic to me. I lived in one of the apartments that was originally a doctors office. It was massive! I also loved the entrance of the bldg, and the lobby...it felt like you were entering a hotel 😃. I do remember also playing along side of the bldg ,near the stairs. Fun Times

Oh goodness Shana Gamble - I remember you and your sister Simone. I hope all is well! We had fun back then sliding down the slopes. I lived there from 1971 - 1975. We moved 2 buildings up the block. And I still live in that building. Boy do I remember Itchy Goomey!

I lived in the LM from the mid 30s through the early 50s. The entrance was totally different than your picture. There was a blue cloth awning over the whole entrance, extending to the curb. There were revolving doors going into the lobby, and David the wonderful (uniformed) doorman to greet you! The marble floored lobby was huge and I THINK there was a goldfish pond/fountain at the far end. At. Xmas time there was a HUGE tree, with silver foil icicles and a rug leading to the tree that we'd scrape our feet across 'till we came to the tree and cause great spark, when we touched the icicle! The back hall had the mailboxes and a pharmacy serving all the Dr's patients that came to the building! I lived on W4, the laundry room floor, facing Walton Ave. The laundry room was amazing & MODERN for it's day, with drying racks heated naturally to dry clothes (No "dryers" at that time!). The "back" staircase, was probably one of the fire escape stairs that was the 2nd exit from each apartment. This was a completely FIRE PROOF building! (Just read about that whole complex of apartments that burnt down in Edgewater, NJ, Couldn't HAPPEN to the LM!)

I lived in the Lewis Morris with my boy friend Charles Ziff from 1953 to 1970. My father practised Hematology ib 1-I. We lived in 11-D. Charles lived in 8-R. The building had four elevatormen & a doorman at the Grand Concourse lobby The Walton Av lobby was controlled electronically.

I lived in the bldg from 1964 until 1972. We use to play in Itchy Goomey. We also use to slide down the sides of the staircase on pieces of cardboard. It was such a blast. I knew Jill and her brother Cory.

I lived in this builing for the first five years of my life (70'-75'). I have such great memories of the place. We used to sled down the sides of the staircase next to the building (my sister broke her arm there!), ride our bike up and down the concourse because they would close part of it on Sundays. There were 6 elevators in that building And the lobby was full of vending machines and professional offices (doctors, karate studio, etc). The basement, laundy room was scary. But everything was so big and beautiful in that building. Shana Gamble

I lived in this building from 1968 through 1972. There was a back staircase that we played in and we called it Itchy Goomey. We would start on the roof of the building and run down the stairs screaming. When we reached the ground floor the doorman used to chase us. It was a trip.
