Unfortunately, I have bad memories of the hospital. In December 1969, my father collapsed at Beth Jacob Beth Miriam Synagogue on the day of my brother's Bar Mitzvah, and was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital. He had cardiac arrest there and ended up in a coma. He subsequently passed away on January 1, 1970.

Helene,
If you still need the info - Dr. Leff's Central Maternity Hospital, Bronx NY operated at 1831 Grand Concourse from 1938 - 1959. Hope this helps.

OMG, I remember that Hospital. I've been away for more than 40 years, and still remember. I am going to try and go next year.

I watch them build this hospital fron the ground to completion. When completed it was a Army hospital for returning Vets. I visited my brother there after he was liberated from a German POW camp.

I was looking for the Lebannon because I lived right down the concourse from it at 1460 Grand Concourse in the 60's.

Great to see. I went to Cathedral high.

I grew up on 179th street and Daly Avenue... right down (or up) the block from P.S. 67. Moved to another part of the Bronx (Pelham Pkway - closer to Allerton Avenue) when I entered 5th grade, and missed the old neighborhood something fierce. What a great place it was. I was born at Central Maternity - I can't find an address for it. Does anyone know what became of it? My brothers were born at Bronx Lebanon.

I remember The Bronx Lebannon Hospital when I was 17yrs old I worked as a Nurse in the hospital for Summer Youth in the 80s ha.... their was no debt cards. On pay days I 2 make a line that last 4 hrs. Yes Bronx Lebannon was a great hospital I met my supervisor who was one of a kind.

173rd Street and Selwyn Avenue and the back of the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. They have almost completed a 2 story addition to the build on the left side (1/09). Also, this hospital owns many of the apartment buildings in the area, including the buildings on Selwyn and Morris Avenues. They have kept this community alive and thriving, even with many older apartment building were destroyed in other parts of The Bronx the past 30 plus years.
