I lived in the Capri 1970-1979, Apt 2D....oh my goodness..my parents and I would walk under this tunnel all the time to go to the subway to catch the D train, I believe. These pics are making me cry. It brings back so many wonderful memories

Oh yes,the tunnel under the Grand Concourse. There I would catch the D train. The D train line was very special I would take it to Work,Church, and the lovely Coney Island. The 4 train one block from this location was also a fond memory.

I walked thru that tunnel everyday on my way to and from P.S 70 from k-6th. As a younger child, I remember we were allowed to play on the street up to the tunnel. I remember thinking the "Capri" building was sooo high class and the Lewis Morris of course

The tunnel on 174th street between Walton Avenue and Selwyn Avenue (in the background). Prior to 1955 I could see my fathers initials in the concrete sidewalk (behind a pillar). Then when the sidewalk was resurfaced I put my initials in the concrete around 1955. I recall the tunnel having construction trailers when they were blasting away at the rocks to make way for the Cross Bronx Expressway.. a major undertaking with the subway and Grand Concourse above. Further, the high rise building shown is 1700 Grand Concourse "The Capri" building. Also, there is an entrance in the tunnel for the subway line. And on Morris Avenue and 175th Street is another tunnel as well. Plus two other subway entrances to the subway from the GC.
