I have always wanted to take a walk down those steps and so I did last April. It was a little scary because in some area the steps were so decrepit I was literally walking over rubble.

This view of the stairs at the end of Clifford Place that connects the Concourse to Walton Ave is a more distant version of an oil painting that I completed last year and that will be in a group show at The Blue Door Gallery in Yonkers NY opening January 11th of 2014. I am retired from a job working for NYS Dept of labor that took me into the field, ie the streets of the Bronx, 3 days a week. I was interested in the geometry of this stairway and some of the others like one off of clay Ave, and another off of Ft Independence Ave, farther west. All of these photos that you so wonderfully present remind me of my years in the field but actually, first and foremost, my 22 years living in the Bronx

Hello, I'm Daveigh I dont know if you read your messages but I'd like to know if there is any significance with these steps. I've seen them in movies, pictures of famous people, music videos and have no clue. Please let me know. thank you.

The staircase called itchygoomy. We used to run down that staircase from the roof, and when we got to the lobby the doorman would run after us. It was great

There were secret passages in The Lewis Morris..back in the 60's we called it " Itchygoomy"There were crazy rumors that there were ghosts..people were murdered there..so of course all the neighborhood kids would play there..and hang out on "the steps"

yup thats goes down from Walton up to the Concourse. They also made the Video New York Ft Rappers Fat joe, Ja Rule and Jada Kiss Here. In the 90's there was a Basketball Rim at the top up the stairs to the left. In fact I think I see some black Teens playing ball there in the picture. Lewis Morris is on the left. During these years being in Lewis Morris alone at night was some scary stuff. I didn't live there but I went to a party there once with my family when I was young and we left late. I believe the building has some subterranean floors. That go below Walton.
