I lived at 1170 Walton Avenue. I left, but my parents lived there until they passed away. 15 years later I cam to the USA for a visit. I wanted bery much to return to the "old place" but in 1977 I was told not to dare go there. Is it different today?

WHOW, what wonderful pictures ! Well, unfortunately I didn't grew up in the Bronx but in Germany, near to Berlin. However, it really thrills me to read all these loveley memories of former residents of this fascinating borough.

Relatives / Ancestors of mine lived there for centuries far back in time. It was the time from round about 1840 when they came from Germany and then settled down in the Bronx up to the 60's I think. They used to live in Morrisania, Westchester. They lived at 2521 Briggs Avenue ; 2785 Briggs Avenue ; 2821 Briggs Avenue ; 1424 Boston Road ; 549 E. 169th Street ; 781 E. 169th Street ; 830 E. 169th Street ; 643 E. 170th Street ; 105 E. 177th Street ; 601 E. 178th Street ; 271 E. 197th Street ; 1380 Prospect Avenue ; 2021 Arthur Avenue ; 1173 Wyatt Street ; 283 E. Burnside Avenue ; 34 Warren Street ; 675 King Avenue. As far as I know. :-)
Maybe one of the Bronxites here knows one of the names RONNER , PRUTTING , LEBBE , DRENCKHAHN , RYAN , DAY. All the families are German or have German roots and protestant. Some of them moved away to New Jersey or somewhere else or just died there.
Would be so happy to share with someone good old stories and memories of these people.
We also have a large family tree on ancestry... Just in case, my e-mail is :

I was close to thirty before I realized the word for this was not firescape, but fire escape. A real AHA! moment. I lived on Sheridan Avenue and 172nd St. from 1953 to 1966. Definately my formative years.
