The St. Lawrence College Vikings men's basketball team is back in third place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association East division, after a two-win weekend.

The Vikings clobbered Cambrian 69-49 on Saturday, Feb. 11 in front of a home crowd.

On Friday night, the Vikings overpowered the visiting Seneca Sting 85-77.

The team is now 11-7 in regular-season play.

The Vikings entered the weekend on a two-game losing skid.

"After back to back losses, this really pumps the team up," Terence Thomas, the Vikings guard and co-captain.

Thomas, of Ottawa, led Vikings scorers in the Cambrian game with 26 points. Jean Beugre, of Ottawa, chipped in with 11.

The Vikings led 13-9 after one quarter, but opened the game up with a strong second quarter that took them into halftime with a 35-21 lead.

On Friday night, the Vikings used a strong third quarter to win the game. The Vikings trailed 34-33 at the half, but outscored the Sting 27-15 in the third quarter and held on to the lead throughout the fourth quarter.

Jordan Fresque, of Sault Ste. Marie, led Vikings scorers with 22 points. Thomas had 16 points and Jermaine Edwards and Sangee Martin, both of Kingston, scored 15 points each.

Thomas said the wins were especially pleasing, considering they put the Vikings in a good position, with just two regular season games to go.

If the Vikings win those games, they will be assured at least one home playoff game.

"It's in our own hands," he said.

The Cambrian game was also exciting for the Vikings, because all nine players who dressed got on the court."It's beautiful," Thomas added.

"Jermaine and I are captains and we talk about that a lot. We want to get up enough to get our bench players into the game so they can gain some experience."
