Vikings defeat Lords in home opener

(Kingston, ON) The St. Lawrence College women's basketball team made quick work in their home opener against the Durham College Lords, going 7/10 from the three-point line in just the first quarter. The strong play led to the 79-61 SLC victory, making it back-to-back wins to start the season.

Haley Gourdier (#11), Abby Heron (#13), Lacey Knox (#14), and Nicolle Gaudet (#24)all recorded three pointers in the first quarter, with Knox finishing with 15 points before hitting the bench to start the second quarter. The Vikings put up 38 points in just the first 10 minutes of play to take a 38-17 lead. While SLC would slow down their play in the second quarter, only scoring 13 points, they kept the Lords to just 9 points.

Despite being outscored 35-28 in the second half, the Vikings would never give up the lead. As the strong play from the first quarter was enough breathing room for SLC to secure the victory.

"We definitely fed off the home crowd to start the game" said head coach Remy Simpson.

"The girls were on fire and it seemed everything went in. But in the second half, we definitely cooled off. Something we are going to have to build on before our game against Fleming."

Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) women's basketball player of the week, Lacey Knox, led the Vikings with 24 points, and 7 rebounds. First year player Abby Heron played a solid 31 minutes, finishing with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Blythe Glutelus (#12) was all over the court fighting for loose balls, and would finish the game with 6 steals
