KINGSTON, Ont. (November 12, 2016) - Markus Trence (Orangeville, Ont.) put up 23 points as Queen's (4-1) defeated Western (3-2) in five sets on Saturday night at the ARC, 21-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-18, and 15-12.

GAME FLOW
After the tricolour used a block to earn a point, the match leaned in the Mustangs favour, with the Gaels committing four service errors early in the first set. Queen's stuck around in the opening set, but it was Western who led start to finish, going up 1-0 on a 25-21 victory.

The second set was the opposite story, with the Gaels hitting the technical timeout up 16-12 on a block from Trence and Malcolm Prentice (Oakville, Ont.). Queen's doubled up Western in the second frame with 12 kills to their six, earning a 25-19 win to tie it up.

Western took their second lead of the match with a dominant third set. The Gaels offence was limited to six kills, and committed a game-high nine attacking errors in the set. Matt Hooker helped the Mustangs string together a run of points early in the set with a series of tough serves en route to Western's 25-15 win.

With the Gaels needing to win the fourth set to extend the match, Trence powered the tricolour offence to 16 kills. On defence, the tricolour held the Mustangs to eight kills. Zac Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.) also added some highlight-reel kills to give Queen's the 25-18 win and force a fifth set.

In the tie-breaker, Trence started things off well for the tricolour followed by a great kill by Dylan Hunt (Aurora, Ont.). A couple of blocks late in the set gave the Gaels the 15-12 win in the set and the match victory at 3-2.

Trence had a game-high 21 kills and a game-high 11 digs. Hutcheson chipped in 12 kills and 10 digs, while Joel Rudd (Cambridge, Ont.) continued his stellar rookie season with 11 kills and nine digs. Jamie Wright (Kingston, Ont.) contributed 42 of the team's 48 assists in the win.

Gavin Taylor was the lone Mustang to reach double digit kills with 13.
