KINGSTON, Ont. (February 10, 2010) – Queen’s Natalie Gray (#12) of Oshawa, Ont. tallied 16 points in a three-set sweep (25-11, 25-13, 25-6) over the Royal Military College women’s volleyball team on Wednesday evening at the Athletics & Recreation Centre (ARC) on campus at Queen’s University.
The game was Queen’s last of the regular season putting their record at 13-6 entering the playoffs. The Gaels currently hold a three game win streak and have not lost a set in each of those wins. Since returning from the December holiday break the Gaels are 9-2.
Gray’s 16-point game-high performance came on eight kills and eight service aces. She also added 10 digs in the win. Just missing out on a double-digit game was Natalie Fisher (#1) of Burlington, Ont., who posted nine points on nine kills. Shannon Walsh (#11) of Perth Road, Ont., led the team in digs with 12.
Setter Anna Pedjase (#3) of Waterloo, Ont., led Queen’s with 18 assists while Kristin Collins (#14) of Whitby, Ont., chipped in with 11 of her own.
The Gaels have 26 points to close out the season and sit tied with Toronto for first place with the Varsity Blues holding a game in hand. However, the Gaels have clinched second place in the East Division due to OUA tie-breaking procedures. Although the Gaels split the season series with Toronto, the Varsity Blues hold the tie breaker in sets 5-2.
Queen’s opens its playoff run at home against the third place York Lions on Friday, February 19. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm at the ARC.
NOTES: Queen’s closes the regular season with a perfect 8-0 home record including six wins on their new home court in the ARC... Queen’s 26-point season is their most since the 2003-04 season where they secured 24 points and finished in second place behind Toronto... Tonight’s game was originally scheduled to be played on November 13 however, RMC had to postpone the game due to illness which limited their roster.
