KINGSTON, Ont. (February 12, 2011) – Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., tallied 25.5 points but it wasn't enough as the Queen's Gaels fell 3-2 to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 9-15.
The loss puts Queen's (15-4) into a three-way tie for second place with McMaster (15-4) and Guelph (15-4) with just a single game to play in the regular season. Queen's will battle Guelph at the Athletics and Recreation Centre tomorrow while McMaster faces RMC.
Western has already sewn up first place and will host the OUA Final Four on February 25-26.
Zeeman, who was named the Telus Queen's Athlete of the Week last Monday, had 23 kills and 2.5 blocks to earn his 25.5 points. He was the game's leading scorer.
Toronto's Michael Amoroso registered 15 points in the loss while Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., posted 14. Dan Rosenbaum of Hamilton, Ont. contributed 45 assists.
Michael Sjonnesen of Cambridge, Ont., had 19.5 points in the win for McMaster followed by Kevin Stevens of Winnipege who tallied 18.5. Austin Campion-Smith of Bowmanville, Ont., recorded 52 assists.
Queen's can finish no worse than fourth place, having already clinched a playoff spot. Playoff positioning remains in doubt until tomorrow's games are complete. McMaster faces RMC, while Guelph plays Queen's – all starting at 2:00pm.
Regardless of position, the Gaels will host an OUA Quarter-final match on February 19.
